What is LibriLinks? |
LibriLinks provides direct links from a database citation to the full text of a subscribed article, journal or book. If this is not available, LibriLinks tries to locate the print holdings in the LIBISnet library or other libraries in Belgium. You are also offered options to find related information and to save citation information.
LibriLinks is provided by the K.U.Leuven University Library and LIBIS, using the SFX link server software

How do I use LibriLinks?
|
When searching bibliographic databases, the LIBIS-Net catalogue or LibriSourcePlus, you will encounter the button (in some databases, this is a text link). Depending on the database it appears in the short or in the complete description of a reference. Clicking this button opens the LibriLinks menu. On top you can see the reference and listed underneath are the electronic services which your institution can offer with this. Click on the desired option.
You can also use LibriLinks via the Citation Linker (What is Citation Linker?). For this you must already have a fairly complete reference.
Note: to use LibriLinks your browser must accept JavaScript and cookies.

What services does LibriLinks offer?
|
The LibriLinks menu is context sensitive, i.e.: depending on the reference and/or your location, the number of electronic services offered can vary. Following services may be included:
- One or more links to the full text of an article or journal.
These are only shown if your institution is entitled to access the resource
- A link to the journal in the LIBIS-Net catalogue.
If the reference contains an ISSN that is matched by the LIBIS-Net catalogue, you'll get a direct link to the journal entry in the catalogue. If the ISSN is not known, you can run a catalogue search by words in the title.
- A link to Antilope, which checks the print format availability in Belgium.
This link is only shown when the reference contains an ISSN
- (other) articles by the author(s) in Web of Science.
- The journal's impact factor.
This is shown if the journal is included in ISI's Journal Citation Reports.
- Related information in Google Scholar.
This starts a search by words in the title
- Related information on the internet via Google, Yahoo or Scirus.
This starts a search by words in the title.
- Exporting the bibliographic reference to an appropriate format to Procite, Reference Manager, Endnote or save the citation information in an appropriate citation style.
The dropdown menu "Related documents" presents related journals (continuations, supplements, ...) to which your institution has an available access
Exporting bibliographic references: important notes
Occasionally a reference, delivered by a database, can be incomplete. Therefore, always check your saved references on completeness.
You can choose from different citation styles. Save the citation to your own document with cut and paste.
- Export citation information to Procite, Reference Manager or Endnote Note.
The program chosen must first be installed on your pc.

Who can use LibriLinks?
|
|
LibriLinks buttons are available on any pc connected to the network of your institution. Students and staff of Association institutions can use a proxy server for access from outside their institution's network.
|
|
Why don't I see any LibriLinks buttons?
|
This can have different causes:
- Your browser doesn't accept JavaScript or cookies (check your browser configuration).
- Sometimes the LibriLinks button only appears in the complete record of a bibliographic reference (depending on the database).
- You're working from outside your institution's netword and don't use a proxy server.
- The bibliographic database you're searching in doesn't yet support SFX. Check the list of SFX-sources.
- Sometimes a reference contains no ISSN. When the system doesn't know the ISSN it can't offer a LibriLinks button.
- In Google Scholar: the "scholar preferences" have possibly been changed. The LibriLinks link is not shown if LibriLinks is not selected. More info

Why don't I see a link to the full text of an article/journal?
|
Possible causes are:
- The journal is published only in print format. Consult the LIBIS-Net catalogue or Antilope.
- Your institution has no subscription to the electronic version of the journal. You can verify this in LibriSourcePlus or the LIBIS-Net catalogue. Consult the LIBIS-Net catalogue or Antilope.
- The older issues of the journal are not yet available electronically.
- You're working from outside your institution's network and don't use a proxy server.
- The journal isn't included in the SFX database. Consult LibriSourcePlus or the LIBIS-Net catalogue to check whether your institution still may have access.

Why doesn't a full text link lead me to the full text?
|
When the LibriLinks menu offers a full text link, the full text should be available to K.U.Leuven.
LibriLinks tries to bring you as close to the full text as possible. Sometimes you will have to navigate a bit further through the website of the publisher/provider.
If you still can't get to the full text, you can report this: via the web form on the help page or via e-bronnen@bib.kuleuven.be.

What is Citation Linker?
|
|
Citation Linker is an extra tool within LibriLinks in which you can enter a (fairly) complete reference, to check whether it is available in full text or in the catalogue. You can find Citation Linker in LibriSourcePlus or on the webpages of the faculty libraries
